Production of Soluble Wood Cellulose in the World Increased
In 2006-2010, production of soluble wood cellulose in the world increased by 8.7%, i.e. from 3.4 million tons to 3.7 million tons. The largest annual growth (by 4.6%), compared to the previous years, was registered in 2009. According to BusinesStat estimates, in recent years the production growth of soluble wood cellulose in the world has been connected with the rayon market development. Synthetic silk has become the most popular product in the rayon market due to the boom in prices for cotton and the resource scarcity.
In 2006-2010, the sales of soluble wood cellulose in the world went up by 13.3%, i.e. from 3.2 million tons to 3.6 million tons. In this period the sales were steadily increasing, on the average by 3.2% per annum. In 2010, China was the leader in the sales volume of soluble wood cellulose (23.5% of the total sales volume in the world). The USA accounted for 17.7% of the total sales volume in the world, and India for 10.4%. In 2006-2010, the per capita sales of soluble wood cellulose in the world increased by 8%: from 0.49 kilograms per year to 0.53 kilograms per year. In 2010, the leader in the per capita sales of soluble wood cellulose in the world was Austria (34.2 kilograms per annum), followed by Ireland (11.3 kilograms per annum) and Germany (4.2 kilograms per annum)
In 2010, China was the largest importer of soluble wood cellulose (949 thousand tons, i.e. 34.5% of the worldwide import volume of soluble wood cellulose). In 2010, the top importers of soluble wood cellulose apart from China, were also Germany (14.3%), Indonesia (12.8%), the USA (7.5%), and India (6.1%)
