Fresh Fruit Croppage in the World Increased
In 2006-2010, fresh fruit croppage in the world increased by almost 10%: from 555 million tons to 608 million tons. The biggest annual growth of fresh fruit croppage, compared to the previous years, was registered in 2008, and it amounted to 4%. In 2006-2010, China was the leader by the croppage volume of fresh fruit. In this period the share of China of the fresh fruit croppage volume in the world fluctuated between 30% in 2006 and 31% in 2010. Despite the fact that China occupies the leading position in the production volume of fresh fruit, the rate of per capita fresh fruit production in China is not high.
In 2006-2010, the sales volume of fresh fruit in the world went up by 10%: from 505 million tons to 555 million tons. The biggest annual growth of fresh fruit croppage, compared to the previous years, was registered in 2009, and it amounted to almost 4%. In 2011-2015, according to BusinesStat estimates, the sales of fresh fruit in the world will rise on the average by 2% annually. In 2015, the sales volume of fresh fruit in the world will reach 619 million tons. In 2006-2010, the highest sales volume was registered in the sectors of melon and watermelon sales, it totaled 22% of all the sales of fresh fruit. The banana sales accounted for 16% of the total sales volume, the sales of apples and oranges accounted for 12%. In 2010, almost every third purchase of fresh fruit in the world was made in China (around 171.9 million tons). About 12% of all the fresh fruit in the world were sold in India and around 6% in Brazil.
In 2010, the leaders in the per capita consumption of fresh fruit in the world were Costa Rica (380.2 kilograms per annum), Brazil (185.1 kilograms per annum) and Iran (183.6 kilograms per annum).
