Metallurgical Industry Incurs a Heavy Deficit of Manganese Raw Material.

Manganese is one of the most important raw material for iron industry, which greatly improves the quality of the founded steel.

Demand for manganese ore and concentrate in Russia had been increasing till 2008 and reached 738.5 million tons. In 2009-2010 demand went down because of the decrease in the production turnout, as the metallurgical sector curtailed production during the crisis. According to BusinesStat estimates, in 2011 demand for manganese ore and concentrate in Russia will equal 651 tons with the increase by 8.2% compared to the previous year.

Metallurgical industry incurs a heavy deficit of manganese raw material.  Import deliveries satisfy demand almost to the full extent. The major importing countries are Kazakhstan and the Republic of South Africa. Russia ranks among the world major importers of manganese ore and concentrate. In 2010 import of manganese ore and concentrate into Russia equaled 554 tons, with the domestic production ration equal to 40 tons.

In a long term the share of imported manganese ore and concentrate on the Russian market will go down. Import substitution will be implemented by commissioning of new facilities, the main of which is  mining and metal production sector of the Usinskoje deposit. According to BusinesStat estimates the production of manganese ore and concentrate will amount to 212 tons in 2015.
