Demand for Food Glass Went Up
In 2006-2010, demand for food glass went up by 2 billion units and reached 12.6 billion units. Decrease in demand was registered only in 2009, it amounted to 11.5%. It can be explained by the fact that during the crisis people were saving on alcohol produce, and shifted to cheaper soft beverages bottled in PET packages.
In recent years the Russian food glass market has been showing the trend of the produce import substitution. Capital improvement, increase in capacity and also the product expansion favor the growth of the domestic production.
In the food glass sales mix glass bottles are making the prevailing group. In 2009, the share of glass bottles decreased by 3 %, though in 2010 it began to rise. In 2011, the share of glass bottles will account for 87.5 % of the total sales volume of glassware.
In the next years, according to BusinesStat estimates, the market growth will slowdown due to the packing market saturation. In 2011-2015, the average annual demand growth will amount to 3.1 %.
