The Utility, Gas and Energy Meter Market in Russia is Rapidly Developing

According to Businesstat estimates, the utility, gas and energy meter market in Russia is rapidly developing due to the increasing demand for utility, gas and energy meters. However, high demand for these produce in Russia will not stay at current levels for a long, only till the moment when most of the households will have fitted individual equipment. Demand decrease will also be conditioned by the long service life of the utility meters (several decades).

In 2007-2011, demand for the utility, gas and energy meters in Russia went up from 13.6 million units up to 23.2 million units. For the period of five years the growth of the demand volume has amounted to 70.4 %. The domestic sales accounted for the biggest share of the demand pattern. In 2007-2011, share of the actual sales of the demand pattern equaled 92.7 % on the average. The number of the utility, gas and energy meters exported from Russia is insignificant. In 2007-2011, export share did not exceed 7.3 %. In 2007-2011, the volume of the utility and energy meters exported from Russia equaled from 1.1 million units to 1.5 million units per annum.

Utility meters rank first by the sales volume in the Russian market of utility, gas and energy meters. In 2011, utility meter share of the total sales volume accounted for 53.3 % (11.6 million units). The second position is occupied by energy meters, which accounted for 35.3 % (7.7 million units). In 2011, the sales share of utility, gas and energy meters in Russia equaled 35.3 % (2.5 million units).

According to BusinesStat estimates, the gas meter market in Russia is rapidly developing due to the increasing demand for gas meters. However, high demand for these produce in Russia will not stay at current levels for a long, only till the moment when most of the households will have fitted individual equipment. Demand decrease will also be conditioned by the long service life of gas meters (several decades).

Mainly domestic production of gas meters provides supply in the Russian market. In 2006-2010, the share of Russian production of the supply volume of gas meters fluctuated between 53% and 68%. The largest production share of the supply volume of gas meters was registered in 2006, and in 2008 the market showed the smallest share. In 2011-2015, the share of domestic production of the supply volume of gas meters in Russia will fluctuate between 60% and 62%.

In 2006-2010, the demand volume of gas meters increased by almost 123%, i.e. from 833 thousand units to 1856 thousand units. The highest growth rate of the supply volume (by 31%), compared to the previous year, was registered in 2010, and in 2008 market showed the lowest growth rate of the supply volume (16%). Supply increase was conditioned by the rapid growth of the domestic sales of gas meters, overlapping decrease in the export deliveries.
