Russian Sausage Market is On the Rise
Between 2006 and 2008 sales of sausages and deli meats in Russia were increasing, having reached their high of 2.4 million tons by the end of this period. However, in 2009 the growth gave way to a decrease, and the volume of sales went down to 2.2 million tons.
Cooked sausages, as well as fresh and fresh smoked sausages are 2 biggest segments of the Russian sausage and deli meat market. In 2010 their market share equaled 64%.
In 2010 the volume of sales of all types of sausages increased. Sales of deli meats and smoked sausages grew at the quickest pace. The volume of sales of deli meats went up by 8.9%, and that of smoked sausages grew up by almost 9.1%.
The growth rates of the value of sausage and deli meat sales have lately exceeded the ones of the volume of sales. The growth of the sales value had been primarily stimulated by increasing prices for sausages. Between 2006 and 2010 the average price for sausages and deli meats rose by 57.4%, i.e. from 151.8 rubles per kilogram to 239 rubles per kilogram. According to BusinesStat, by 2015 the value of sales of sausage products will have totaled 939 billion rubles.
