Demand for Poultry Meat in Russia is Growing
According to BusinesStat estimates, poultry population and production of poultry meat in Russia increase on an annual basis. Manufacture of poultry meat in Russia is more profitable than production of beef or pork.
In 2010 import of poultry meat totaled 466 thousand tons out of 3,755 thousand tons of the total volume, offered in the domestic market. Over 60% of poultry meat is imported from the USA and Brazil.
Agricultural enterprises make considerable contributions to the production of poultry meat in the country, for they keep more fowls and procure more meat than private households. In 2010 agricultural units procured 2.3 million tons of poultry meat, while private households produced only 598 thousand tons.
In 2010 demand for poultry meat in Russia increased in all three market segments: the industrial processing, public catering and retailing sectors.
