The Volume of Retail Sales of Sugar Went Down
Mainly retail consumers create the sugar market in Russia. In 2009, family households purchased 2.71 million tons of sugar, 1.44 tons of which were used for making preserved food.
In 2006-2010, the volume of retail sales of sugar in Russia went down from 2.72 to 2.71 million tons. The retail sales volume of sugar decreased annually, compared to the previous years. The situation in 2008 was the only exception, when the retail sales volume increased by 3.8%, compared to 2007. The retail trade volume is stable in Russia only due to the common practice of making preserved food.
In 2006-2010, major share of the domestic sales volume of sugar in Russia accrued to the retail sales. In 2006-2010, the retail sales share of the domestic sales volume of sugar fluctuated between 47.3% in 2007 and 49.7% in 2009. In 2011-2015, the retail sales volume will amount to 2.71 million tons on the average. The share of the industrial sales ranged from 43.4% in 2009 to 45.3% in 2007. In 2011-2015, the sales volume of sugar in the Russian food industry will grow by almost 2%: from 2.39 million tons to 2.43 million tons.
According to BusinesStat estimates, in 2006-2010, the sales share in the HoReCa sector equaled 7% of the total volume of the domestic sales of sugar, on the average. Catering industry consumed insignificant volumes of sugar, around 400 thousand tons. With the beginning of the crisis the sugar deliveries in the HoReCa sector decreased to 380 thousand tons. In the forecasting 2011-2015, the sales volume of sugar in the catering sector will stay at the level of 370-380 thousand tons.
