Cost Volume of the Tomato Product Market Went Up
In 2006-2010, according to BusinesStat estimates, cost volume of the tomato product market went up by 99 %, i.e. from 38.6 to 76.7 billion rubles. Increase in cost volume of tomato product sales outstripped the market growth in volume terms. It was conditioned by boom in prices for tomato products. In 2006-2010, the average price for 1 kilogram of tomato products increased by 109 %, i.e. from 47.6 to 99.6 rubles.
In 2010, the actual sales volume of tomato products reached 742.8 thousand tons. However, in 2010 the market capacity of tomato products amounted to 894.9 thousand tons. The difference between the market size and capacity is conditioned by domestic production of tomato products in Russia. In other words part of the tomato produce is made of tomatoes, grown in the households, and these products are not distributed. Around 150 thousand tons of tomato products are produced in the private households annually. Currently, the Russian tomato product market is controlled by the domestic manufacturers. In 2010, supply of the preserved tomato products amounted to 491.9 thousand tons of the Russian produce and to 230.7 thousand tons of the imported produce.
