The Sales of Frozen Fruit and Vegetables will Grow Up.

In 2006-2010, the sales of frozen fruit and vegetables in Russia increased by almost 12% per annum. While in 2006 the frozen fruit and vegetable market amounted to 200 thousand tons, in 2010 it reached 302 thousand tons. In 2009, the actual volume of sales of frozen fruit and vegetables decreased by 5% compared to 2008. Under the condition of the crisis, the consumers were forced to stop buying frozen fruit and vegetables.

The major part of sales of frozen fruit and vegetables in physical terms falls on frozen vegetables and mushrooms, excluding potatoes (53.5%). Frozen fruit and berries rank second (23.8%), and frozen potatoes are in the third place (22.7%).

According to BusinesStat estimates, in 2011-2015 the sales of frozen fruit and vegetables in Russia will grow up on average by 7.2% per annum. In 2015, the volume of sales will total 427 thousand tons. The increase in sales will be stipulated by a number of reasons.

Firstly, the rhythm of life, in which quickness and comfort play significant roles, is accelerating. Secondly, Russia is experiencing demographic changes. Now there are more single and elderly people, who are the main consumers of frozen fruit and vegetables. Thirdly, there is a tendency towards healthy eating and a possibility to consume various fruit and vegetables irrespective of the season. During the process of freezing, the complex of vitamins and minerals is preserved in the frozen fruit and vegetables. For Russians, who are lacking vitamins and minerals, this food is very important, especially in winter, when fresh fruit and vegetables are expensive and not always available.
