Prices for Cheese Went Up

According to BusinesStat estimates, in 2006-2010 the sales volume of cheese in Russia was steadily increasing. In 2007, even the price hike, caused by the rising prices for milk did not stop the market growth. In 2010, the sales volume in Russia reached 750 thousand tons, the sales of rennet cheese accounted for 565 thousand tons, and the sales of processed cheese accounted for 185 thousand tons.

In 2006-2010, the prices for cheese went up by 78%, i.e. from 421 rubles per kilogram to 149 rubles per kilogram. In 2010, the average price for rennet cheese amounted to 175.6 rubles per kilogram, and processed cheese cost equaled on the average 67.8 rubles per kilogram.

In 2005-2010, the import volume in the Russian market increased by 100 thousand tons, i.e. from 421 thousand tons to 433 thousand tons. Since 2011 the situation has changed and the share of the domestic produce on the local market will begin to increase. The imported cheese will lose the market power due to the protectionist policy of the Russian government toward the domestic manufacturers.

World Market of Cheese is Developing Dynamically

According to BusinesStat estimates, from 2006 to 201 the world market of cheese was developing dynamically.  In this period the cheese production went up by 8%, and in 2010 it amounted to 6.4 million tons. The leaders in the cheese production are Germany, Italy, the USA, and France.

In 2006-2010, international trade index of cheese also increased.  The import volume of cheese went up by 7.1%, and export volume by 12.8%.

Trade of imported produce accounts for the major share of the international cheese trade, it amounted to 26% in 2010. In 2010-2015, this rate will go up, and by 2015 it will have reached 30%.
