Sales Volume of Wines in Russia Increased
Wines are mainly distributed in the domestic market in Russia. In 2007-2011, the share of the domestic sales in the demand pattern accounted for almost 100 %. In this period export share of the demand volume did not exceed 0.1 %.
According to BusinesStat estimates, the sales volume of wines in Russia increased from 1,012.3 million liters in 2007 to 1,032.2 million liters in 2011. For the period of five years the actual sales volume has risen by 2 %. During the crisis of 2008-2009 the sales of wines in Russia went down from 1,012.3 million liters in 2007 to 901.6 million liters in 2009. Sales decrease was connected with the general income fall of the population, some of the consumers shifted to less expensive alcoholic beverages.
Table wines rank first by the actual sales volume on the Russian market. In 2011, table wine share of the total sales volume accounted for 68.2 % (703.8 million liters). The second position is occupied by sparkling wines and carbonated wines with the share of 22.4 % (231 million liters).
Therefore, in 2011 the sales share of the special wines in Russia accounted for 9.4 % (97.4 million liters).
