The Production of Antibiotics will Decrease

According to the estimates of BusinesStat, between 2006 and 2010 the turnover of the antibiotic market in Russia went up by 90%, i.e. from 13.2 billion rubles to 25.1 billion rubles. The value of sales of antibiotics grew at a pace, outstripping the growth of the market in volume terms. The outstripping was conditioned by the fast rise in the prices for antibiotics. During the period from 2006 to 2010 the average price for 1 package of antibiotics increased by 66%, i.e. from 55.7 rubles to 92.6 rubles.

In 2010, sales of antibiotics rose by 9% and reached 271.0 million packages. In 2011-2015 sales will grow by 43%, i.e. from 292.0 million packages to 390.0 million packages. Sales of antibiotics increase due to the high demand, which is mainly conditioned by the fact that microorganisms become resistant to new medicines very fast. Therefore, it is necessary to keep widening the assortment regularly. Besides, microorganisms are becoming more aggressive. If before some illnesses could be cured by 1 injection, now a long course of medical treatment is needed.

In 2010, production of antibiotics reached 197 million packages. In 2011-2015, the Russian production of antibiotics will go down to 173.7 million packages. The main reasons for the decrease will be dilapidation of fixed assets, obsolete nomenclature of substances in the condition, when new more effective medicines are needed, and the situation of strong competition from foreign producers.
