The Import Price of Absorbent Carbon is Rising.
Till 2008 supply of absorbent carbon on the Russian market had been rising. In 2007, the supply volume amounted to 21.5 thousand tons. In 2008 the supply volume of absorbent carbon in Russia began to decrease. From 2007 to 2009 the supply volume of absorbent carbon went down by 7%, from 22 to 20 thousand tons. In 2010, absorbent carbon supply increased by 13%, compared to the previous year, and reached 23 thousand tons. According to BusinesStat analysis, the reduction of absorbent carbon supply on the Russian market in 2008-2009 was stipulated by several factors.
Firstly, the changes in the market opportunities, which took place during the crisis, particularly, cost price rise and growing import share of cheap Chinese produce of the supply volume, affected the domestic absorbent carbon production greatly. Demand for domestic absorbent carbon began to decrease. From 2007 to 2009 the volume of absorbent carbon production went down by more than 30 %, from 5 thousand tons in 2007 to 4 thousand tons in 2009.
Secondly, the import volume of absorbent carbon decreased from 14 thousand tons in 2007 to 12 thousand tons in 2009. The reduction of import deliveries of absorbent carbon into Russia was subjected to the advance of import prices. Compared to the previous year, the import price, in dollar terms, went up by 19% in 2008 and by 11% in 2009. Compared to the previous year, the import price, in ruble terms, went up by 12% in 2008 and because of the Russian ruble devaluation by 41% in 2009.
