Kvas Market in Russia is Far From Being Saturated
According to BusinesStat estimates, the kvas market in Russia is far from being saturated. In 2011-2015, the market will continue to grow on the average by 3.5% per annum in volume terms and by 10 % per annum in value terms.
In 2010, 492.3 million litres of kvas, purchased in the retail outlets, was consumed in Russia. 71% of the population consumed the purchased kvas. Thereby every consumer drank on the average 7 litres of kvas in 2010.
The most popular package of kvas is mylar bottle, it accounted for 90% of the sales. The most popular bottle capacity is two litres, it accounted for around 60% of the sales.
The leading brand on the Russian kvas market is Ochakovo of the similar producer. In 2010, Ochakovo controlled 32 % of the sales in value terms. The second position is occupied by kvas Nikola (20% of the market), and the third position is taken by Kruzhka I Bochka (7 % of the market).
Refreshment Drinks Have the Highest Share in the Structure of Sales
Sales of soft drinks in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) went up from 11.64 billion liters in 2005 to 15.15 billion liters in 2008. In 2009 sales of soft drinks reduced by 2%, which was connected with the consumption decrease in the CIS countries due to the economic instability. Soft drinks are not an essential product; therefore consumers may give up buying soft drinks in case their income declines.
During the period from 2010 to 2014 economic stabilization in the CIS and the growth of household income will lead to an increase of soft drink consumption. During this period sales of soft drinks will go up by 2.1-4.6% annually following the growing demand. In 2014, the volume of sales will total 17.62 billion liters.
Russia is the leader in sales of all types of soft drinks. In 2005-2009, its share in the total volume of soft drink sales in the CIS varied from 61.6% to 63.4%.
Refreshment drinks have the highest share in the structure of sales. During the period from 2005 to 2009 their share in the total volume of soft drink sales in the CIS varied from 54.6% to 63.2%.
The Sales of Soft Drinks in Russia Will Continue to Go Up
In 2006-2010, actual volume of sales of soft drinks in Russia increased by 1.6 billion litres, and reached 12.3 million litres. The economic crisis stipulated only insignificant sales reduction by 1.4% in 2009. Expenses for soft drinks in the crisis period went up slightly, as most of the drinks belong to the economy class market segment.
Cooler is the prevailing product type in the sales mix, its share accounts for 33% of the total sales volume. However, the cool drink market in Russia is close to the saturation level, and the consumer culture of bottled clean water is rapidly spreading, primarily, in big cities and in the office sector. In recent years the retail sales volume of cooler water is rapidly growing in big cities. In 2010, the shares of mineral and drinking water amounted to 28.4% and 18.4% relatively. Juices and nectars account for the fifth part of the total volume in the sales mix.
According to BusinesStat estimates, in the foreseeable future the sales of soft drinks in Russia will continue to go up due to both, increase in the number of consumers and in the average consumption volume. In 2015, the sales of soft drinks will reach 15.3 billion litres.
